Day 1: Arrival to Panama City

Welcome to Central America. The first destination of this tour is Panama, the land of the famous Panama Canal. At the Tocumen International Airport in Panama City you will be met by your tour guide. After this you will take the transfer to your hotel. Once there, you can get relax from the long journey and prepare for your adventurous trip.

Day 2: Discovering the old town on foot

In the morning you will explore the fascinating capital, founded in 1519, with your guide. You will be inspired by the scenery of skyscrapers, posh villas and green hills.
The journey then leads to the Causeway, from where you have an excellent view of the impressive skyline of Panama City. Then you visit the Miraflores locks of the Panama Canal. Here you get a first insight into the workings and dimensions of the channel. The terrace offers a unique view of the ships passing through the locks on their way to the Pacific or Atlantic.

Day 3: The Panama highlight – Cruise on the Panama Canal
Today a very special experience awaits you: the part crossing of the world famous Panama Canal. You'll pass the Pedro Miguel and Miraflores locks and receive interesting information about the history of the canal. From the boat you can watch the huge cargo ships during maneuvers and later enjoy lunch on the ship. You return to the hotel.

Day 4: Dreamlike San Blas islands

Early in the morning you head  to the Atlantic coast with a 4x4 vehicle. From the seaside village of Carti you take the boat to the Kuanidup Lodge. The lodge offers 12 very simple bamboo huts with sand floors, wooden beds, simple mattresses and shared bathrooms. There is power only a few hours a day.
The islands are among the most colorful and beautiful regions of the country. Enjoy the morning at the beautiful beach with its crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean Sea, which invites you to swim and snorkel.
In the afternoon you visit an indigenous village where you learn about the traditional culture of the Kunas.

Costa Rica

 

Day 6: Welcome to the tropical paradise Costa Rica!

After breakfast it is time to say goodbye to the Panama. You will be transferred to Albrook domestic airport, then fly up to David. From there, you go with a vehicle to the border of Costa Rica, to Paso Canoas. At the border crossing you will be met by your guide.
Together you go to the dreamy town of Dominicial, which is located on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The partially deserted beaches, fringed by dense rain forest, make this area a paradise. Dip your feet in Costa Rican waters at the beach of Dominical and enjoy the ease.

Day 7: Paddle adventure through the forest of roots

Today you go on a kayak tour in the Hatillo Mangroves with your guide. These marshes are one of the world's richest ecosystems. Did you know that mangroves are the only plants that thrive in salt water?
Please come and enjoy the surrounding wildlife from your kayak. Exotic birds, sloths, raccoons, iguanas, but also one or the other snake will cross your path.

Day 8: Today, the monkey is loose

After breakfast we leave for the most popular national park on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Manuel Antonio is particularly well known for its white sandy beaches, lush rain forest and its most popular residents, the squirrel monkeys. But also the many other animals make this reserve something very special. The park offers a totally unique species density. Walk with your guide to explore! If the majority of the group wants to visit a lesser known reserve than the Manuel Antonio National Park,  the small reserve Baru close to Dominical can alternatively be. There are also countless animal species, but fewer visitors .
The itinerary takes you into the fabulous cloud forest of Monteverde. The drive there is already an adventure, a bumpy gravel road over hill and dale awaits you.

Day 9: Mystical Monteverde Cloud Forest

In addition to a hike through the deep green forest a hanging bridges tour through the treetops awaits you. Learn more about the cloud forest ecosystem. Afterwards you visit the butterfly and hummingbird garden. Watch the little butterflys and the nimble colorful birds up close. At nightfall, there is a very special highlight waiting for you! Equipped with flashlights you explore the jungle at night. Under the cover of darkness, you now come across other animals as at daylight. Keep your eyes open!

Day 10: The famous Arenal Volcano

Your destination today is the highlight of Costa Rica the Arenal Volcano. Already on the drive there you will sport the inside seething giant. There is a lot to see in the sourroundings of this cone-shaped volcano. Giant trees, hot springs and cooled down lava flows combine to create a beautiful landscape. In 1968 the volcano destroyed an entire village in his last major outbreak, after which he was still slightly active. Since 2010, he shows no outward activity. Discover with your guide this natural beauty on a hike through the National Park.

Nicaragua

 

Day 11: Nicaragua awaits you

Today you will say goodbye to the beautiful Costa Rica. At the border crossing to Nicaragua your English-speaking guide, who will lead you through Nicaragua, is already waiting for you. Today you take the boat to the breathtaking Isla de Ometepe. This island, formed of two pictorial volcanoes, is located in the Lake Nicaragua, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world. Once you have arrived at the hotel, you can spend the rest of the day as you wish. Optionally, you can climb the Maderas volcano. From the vantage point you can enjoy breathtaking views of the neighboring volcano Concepcion, for which the not too strenuous climb is worth.

Day 12: Experience Native American History

After breakfast you leave today on a journey into the past. Isla de Ometepe is famous for its rock paintings and pre-Columbian relics. Discover along with your guide the history of Native Americans. We continue then to the mystical Charco Verde lagoon. Do you know the legend of the "Chico Largo"? Be excited! Next stop is the Kojo de Agua, a natural swimming pool that invites you to bathe.

Day 13: Crater hike volcano Mombacho

This morning we take the boat back to the mainland. On the way to Granada, we stop for a hike at the volcano Mombacho. The fog-shrouded forest volcano is surrounded by a fascinating biodiversity. Thus, the Mombacho salamander is unique in the world. The highlight of the still active volcano is the fantastic view of the lake Nicaragua and the colonial city of Granada.

Day 14: Colonial city of Granada

Founded in 1524, Granada can be best explored in a traditional carriage. Discover along with your guide the beautiful colonial buildings and enjoy the view from the bell tower of La Merced Church. After a morning full of new experiences, we explore the Islets of Granada on a boat tour in the afternoon. These, consisting of about 365 small volcanic islands, arose over 20,000 years ago. Depending on your mood you can finish the day with a cocktail or with a dip in the cool water. Either way, the perfect end for busy day.

Day 15: The Ruins of León
Today we go to Leon, but already the journey there is a reward. The Masaya Volcano is one of Nicaragua's most active giants. Take a look at the crater overcast with clouds of ash. Stroll through the craft market Masaya in the town of the same name. Here you will surely find a small gift for the folks back home. Once you have arrived in Leon, get together with your guide to explore the city. Colonial buildings and a fascinating political history shape León. Let yourself be carried away by the dramatic past. From the roof of the largest cathedral in Central America, which was also declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you have a beautiful view over the city and the Maribios volcanic chain.

Honduras

 

Day 16: Across Honduras
Another country waiting to be discovered by you. In the morning you will be transferred to El Guasaule on the border with Honduras. Honduras is the second largest country in Central America. The name of its capital Tegucigalpa is translated from the ancient Nahuatl language "Silver Mountain". Together with your guide you explore the historical center of "Tegus", as the locals call it lovingly. Did you know that the city was one of the major mountain mining towns of Central America during the colonial period? About 30 minutes away there are 3 old mining towns. Immerse yourself in that time. Then we continue on to Honduras former capital Comayagua, a city rich in colonial buildings. Here you will spend your first night on Honduran soil.

Day 17 : Cigar smoke and wild nature

Today you can expect an exciting program. The Yojoa Lake is the largest natural lake in Honduras and a paradise for bird watching. Around the lake there is to admire a rich flora and fauna, which is protected by two national parks. Together with your guide you set out to explore.
In the ruined city of Los Naranjos you find evidence of the forgotten Mayan culture and a breathtaking waterfall amidst the tropical greenery. Then you continue on to Santa Rosa de Copan. With just over 40,000 inhabitants, it is the largest and most important city in the west of the country. The city has to offer a beautiful cityscape. To ensure the preservation of the old town, the many colonial buildings were declared a national monument. In particular, the tobacco characterizes this city for centuries. During the colonial era Santa Rosa was chosen as the focal point of the tobacco trade. You visit the tobacco factory of 1765 where you can watch the traditional manufacture of cigars.

Day 18: The remains of the Mayan culture

Today you will take a little time travel into the past. The Maya ruins of Copán are waiting for you! Your guide knows the secrets and legends of this fascinating culture. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980, it is one of the most magnificent Mayan cities. Probably will arise the question where this people lived next to its impressive temples. Part of the answer can be found with an optional visit to the "Las Sepultura", which is about 2 km from the main site. After an eventful day, in the late afternoon you can (also optional) leave to the natural hot springs. Learn something about the rituals of the Maya during a pleasant swim in the heated waters.

Day 19: Welcome to the land of the Mayas

Today's morning you can customize to your own liking. In addition to the opportunity to just relax you can opt for one of several optional tours.
You cannot get enough of the beautiful biodiversity? Then visit the macaw bird sanctuary. Here you can discover over 700 different species.
You are fascinated by the ancient Mayans? Get to know their descendants at the Chorti reserve. In order to make your visit to the ancestral site more interesting and adventurous, it is possible to get there on horse-back. A wonderful opportunity to enjoy the scenery.
Or are you a passionate coffee consumer? After a small hike we get to a finca, where you learn about the processes from harvesting to roasting of coffee. Of course you can also try the coffee.
Around noon, you then finally leave for Guatemala, specifically Antigua. Depending on the time of arrival it is possible to go with your guide on a little tour of the colonial city in the evening.

Day 20: UNESCO World Heritage Antigua

After breakfast your guide leads you through the historic city of Antigua. Did you know that in 1543-1773 Central America had a joint capital which was known under the name Antigua?
An earthquake destroyed the city once complete, rebuilt it is now located about 45 km from the present capital of Guatemala, Guatemala City. The city´s charm is due to the mediterranean and colonial buildings as well as its ruins and countless churches. Experience the pure Latin American way of life.
If you are not there during the local school holidays your guide will take you then to two charities. The nonprofit education project Escuela Union Esperanza teaches children from primary school up to the transition to the University and provides all the necessary learning materials.
Los Patojos, another aid organization founded by young Guatemalans trys to give children of the age of 5-8 years a new perspective on life. These children usually come from impoverished circumstances where drugs, violence, prostitution and sexual abuse are part of their everyday life. In the facility, first of all the children learn to respect themselves in order to later have the power to change their environment.

Day 21: A varied market life

After a hearty breaktfas, we leave for the colorful city of Chichicastenango. The biggest and most colorful indigenous market in Central America you get the possibility to browse beautiful traditional textiles and crafts. Guatemala is home to 23 indigenous languages. Here it is quite possible that you hear all of them. Next to the market, the smell of incense mixes with a smell of something smoky burnt. Do you smell it? The 400 year old church of Santo Tomás is closely linked to the history of the Mayas. The steps to the church once led to a temple of this long-forgotten culture. Shamans still use this place today for their rituals, which are also responsible for the smoky smell. Why there are exactly 18 steps and what significance they have you will learn from your expert guide. In the afternoon, you continue on to the town of Panajachel, which is located on the beautiful Lake Atitlan and surrounded by three volcanoes. Your next accommodation is located here.

Day 22: A typical day in Guatemala

Today we leave for San Jorge La Laguna, where you will meet the family with which you will spend the morning. Today is market day, so you assist the family with their weekly shopping. Let yourself be introduced to the traditional cuisine and indulge in the home-cooked food. Once the kitchen has been cleaned, you go to the church of the Brotherhood of the "Holy Cross". With any luck, you may witness a Mayan ritual that brings good luck, money and love and at the same time dispels bad influences. Your guide for today is from here and knows to introduce you very well to the old traditions.
Alternative program: Nature and action pure
Today you visit the nature reserve Atitlan. Here, the rich biodiversity around the lake Atitlán is tried to protect. In order to manage this new habitats for animals are create due to afforestation. Here you can explore nature on your own on various hiking trails. The Butterfly Garden is home to almost 10 different native species. A 23-meter high waterfall, a viewing platform, ideal for bird watching, three suspension bridges that lead across a ravine and former coffee fields await you here, along with beautiful vegetation.

Day 23: On a treasure hunt: natural and cultural gems

After breakfast we go for a morning walk to the jetty, because today you explore lake Atitlán. The sapphire blue sea, is a true natural gem, surrounded by three impressive volcanoes. 14 picturesque indigenous villages, where the Mayan language is still spoken today, adorn this landscape additionally. Old traditions and rituals are still alive here. What God they worship and how they worship him, you will learn about here.
The city of San Juan is located also on the lake and in spite of tourism influences didn`t loose its traditional charm. Colourful murals adorn the typical adobe houses. Here you will meet with the local artist Rupalaj Kistalin, who will introduce you to local painters, weavers and midwives. Far from Western medicine one swears here to conventional healing methods from plants and herbs. After an interesting day full of new impressions we go back to Panajachel, where you can relax and enjoy your free evening.

Day 24: The Mayan city of Tikal

This morning transfer to the airport in Antigua, from where you will fly into the picturesque village of Flores on the Peten-Itza Lake. Finally, after an about one hour's drive you will arrive at the famous and largest Mayan city of Tikal. The ruins of Tikal were not discovered until 1955. Once a cultural site of the Mayans nowadays a national park. Covered by dense jungle and a rich flora and fauna. Jaguars, monkeys, ocelots and nearly 250 species of birds call Tikal their home. UNESCO declared Tikal a World Heritage Site in 1979 because of its culture treasure but also due to its natural richness. Today you will explore various temples, the twin pyramids, as well as a unique banquet hall. Some of the pyramids can be climbed. From the top you have a breathtaking view of the rainforest and the tips of the pyramids.
Learn to understand this culture and its forward thinking. The afternoon is at your leisure. You can top your Guatemala experience either with a canopy and hanging bridges tour or a visit to the museum or Sylvanus or with a mystical Mayan ritual. Either way, you should have an unforgettable experience. In the evening we return to Flores, where a soft bed is waiting for you.

Day 25: Heavenly Belize
We continue on to your 5th Central American adventure. In the morning a transfer takes you to the border Melchor where you get on the transfer to Belize City. The small state of Belize was once known as British Honduras under the British flag, which is why it is the only Central American country whose official language is English. From here you can either embark on a fantastic optional beach extension according to your taste or you fly back home. We can advise you and book a beach stay according to your wishes.
